My 1997 Mercedes E420 was the best car I ever owned.
Before I start, yes, I am a terrible driver. Unfortunately my beautiful car gave it’s life for me on April 18, 2004. This time what happened in ‘Vegas quite literally stayed in ‘Vegas.
At some point Paradise Road becomes a one-way street into the airport.
I was talking to my passenger and distracted. When I realized I was headed to the airport, I decided to make a U-turn. I actually pulled into the middle lane, that I perceived as a median, stopped, put my blinker on, looked ahead for oncoming traffic (which obviously wasn’t there) and then went for it.
The moment of impact was unreal. The speeding taxi hit the strongest part of the car, where the firewall intersects the frame. A foot or two further back and I’d likely have been a corpse.
This is the taxi cab, now permanently off duty, driven by a woman who saw dollar signs attached to my mistake.
There is no evidence that she even took her foot off the gas until after the impact. In fact, after hitting me she bounced off and kept going.
Her only injury was a broken ankle from when her foot hit the floor of her car. Today she’s $100,000 richer.

the accident you had, the rental car shuttle
driver told us (when we were recently in Vegas) someone had been killed
there the week before–trying to do a u turn. I guess it is really common
for people to get turned around there because it is really wide and the road
markings are non distinct.
So hey man could have happened to anyone glad you are alive, J and L wedding
might have been canceled day of without you and hey I’d miss ya.
