The Devil In The White City by Erik Larson

The Devil in the White City, is a true story (two actually) about the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 and America’s first famous serial killer, H.H. Holmes. It’s quite fascinating and keeps moving at a good pace. The author rather humorously shows his own liberal bias in a few places, but it’s not so heavy handed as to detract from the story.

Definition of a New Word - Exclued

Exclued \iks’ klüd\ 1: (adj.) something that is so boldly un-cool that it is actually therefore cool. Examples: William Shatner, Adam West, the Chevy Corvair, the VW Thing, the calculator watch, multi-colored bowling shoes, polyester sport jackets (especially if they’re reversible), tuxedo pants, military surplus clothing, any clothing with farm implement or seed logos, any beat-up full-sized pickup truck (especially if the driver is a hot chick), Las Vegas, Hawaiian music, lounge music, PDA phones, the wifebeater t-shirt, the bomb shelter or being a preacher or a missionary. 2: (vb.) to transition from being cool to the masses to cool among the really cool few. Examples: Mark Wahlberg, Brooke Shields, Robert Mitchum, Carrie Fisher, the Pontiac Trans Am, low-res Fisher Price video cameras, cigars, Frank Lloyd Wright houses, WWII airplanes, ballroom dancing, swing dancing, the harmonica, anything in that awful 1970’s green, ice breaker games at parties and hacky-sac
