So, thanks to a Wall Street Journal article today titled “For These Sites, Their Best Asset Is a Good Name” by Julia Angwin click fraud is a legitimized business. How long will this last? It could be wiped out in two to three weeks with some algorithm updates to weed these bogus sites out of the index, but with Google and Yahoo getting paid (by-the-click) to keep these sites in, I suppose they could be here for a while.
If I want to do something, I find out how to do it independently where I’m the one who takes the risk and, therefore, the one who benefits most from the success.
They found me through pay-per-click ads for my DupliQuote.com site and although I have no intention of paying them $2000 to write 20 doorway pages for my site and get me banned from Google, I let them give me the full pitch.
Ok, so I’ve worked my way through 147 eHarmony matches now and it’s yielded only one brief and frightening experience at Starbucks. (Actually, it wasn’t brief enough, it was 35 minutes of trying to come up with a polite way to jump from the table and run for my life.) Read the rest of this entry »
