Plaxo & Linkedin

Plaxo and Linkedin should merge. They both have cool functions but together they’d be awesome. By the way, you can read my Linkedin Profile.

FolderShare Tips

I’m a big fan of Microsoft’s free FolderShare service. FolderShare is a piece of software you download for free and then it allows you to almost painlessly synchronize files between multiple computers. You can set up shared folders or files between your own computers (XP and/or OSX) but you can also invite others to share individual folders, and this is where it gets really useful.

Never Date a Woman Who… Rule #1

Never date a woman who can’t go out with you because, “I have my kids that weekend.” Basically the concept here is that given the level of gender bias in our court system there must really be something wrong with a woman who doesn’t have custody of her children.

Click fraud becomes a legitimized business?

So, thanks to a Wall Street Journal article today titled “For These Sites, Their Best Asset Is a Good Name” by Julia Angwin click fraud is a legitimized business. How long will this last? It could be wiped out in two to three weeks with some algorithm updates to weed these bogus sites out of the index, but with Google and Yahoo getting paid (by-the-click) to keep these sites in, I suppose they could be here for a while.

My own little theory of third world economics.

Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic EconomicsSo, I’ll start by admitting that I’m no expert when it comes to economics. In fact the only formal economics training I’ve had were one or two rather poorly taught undergraduate courses at Cornfield University in Nowhere Indiana that left me thinking economists (John Maynard Keynes in particular) were completely full of crap. Then, years later a friend of mine introduced me to Henry Hazlitt’s awesome little book
Economics in One Lesson which, to my surprise and delight, gave the same answers to some of the garbage put forth in my undergraduate economics class that I gave. I’ve since read a little Ludwig von Mises, Milton Friedman and Adam Smith and I’ve found that economics is actually very interesting.

Abdul Rahman now likely to be freed!

Abdul Rahman, the Afghan who was expected to be sentenced to death for converting to Christianity is now expected to be set free. When asked if he will leave Afghanistan he said, “Perhaps, but if I flee again that would mean my country hasn’t changed. It would mean that they have won, our enemies. Without respect for human rights, without respect for all religions, the Taliban has won.”

I like this guy!

So just how peaceful is Islam?

An Afghan court may sentence Abdul Rahman to death for converting from Islam to Christianity.

Abdul Rahman Afghan Christian

Afghanistan’s constitution is based on Shariah law, which requires that any Muslim who converts to another religion must be sentenced to death. Afghanistan’s President, Hamid Karzai once again finds himself between a rock an a hard place on this one. 99% of his people are Muslim and listen to the clerics who are calling for this guy’s death and yet many western countries are putting pressure on him to show leniency to Mr. Rahman.
